In the past the Centor criteria were used, but the FeverPAIN criteria is now seen as superior. See the link below to input patient data to check the need for antibiotics. FeverPAIN does not place emphasis on the presence of tender cervical lymphadenopathy to differentiate between Streptococcal throat infections and self-resolving infections. It also shows the importance of timing of presentation in the decision making process for antibiotics.
